On garbage day, skunks are an actual threat.
If you want to look up at the stars make sure you stop running. Otherwise you will be getting a close up of the ground.
Dogs will sound like they are on the wrong side of the fence and coming right for you.
A squirrel darting in front of you will make you yelp like a little girl.
There is something magical about running by the light of a full moon.
A discarded cereal box is a real road hazard.
ALWAYS bring spare batteries for your headlamp.
Spare batteries aren't much help if you can't see well enough to change them. Bring a spare flashlight as well.
In the woods, every tree will look like a person and every squirrel will sound like a predator
No matter how small, a pair of eyes reflecting your light in the dark is creepy.
It's best to assume that every driver in a car can't see you, even if their headlights have cast you aglow.
Darkness messes with your speed perception, you may think you are running fast but you are actually running slow.
Every horror movie you've ever seen will play vividly in your mind
You may find yourself shopping for pepper spray.
It will take serious willpower to go for a run when it is cold AND dark.
Running when it's dark will free up your daytime hours for other priorities, assuming you can stay awake.
A head lamp helps very little when it's pouring down rain.
When it gets cold outside, your breath becomes a hazard by blinding you at inopportune moments
Pepper spray does not taste like pepper
Dark, cold, and rainy are HORRIBLE conditions to run in. If you can force yourself to run in this mess you can run in anything!
HILARIOUS!!
ReplyDeleteThis is a Funny one Scott, I liked it. You might be better off packing a .45 instead of pepper spray; I hear those squirrels pack a nasty bite
ReplyDeleteSomething worse than dark, cold and rainy are: dark, subzero and 2 inches of frozen slush with a 30+ mile an hour wind with cars coming at you constantly - no sidewalk or streetlights.
ReplyDeleteAt that point I really think about staying in my comfy chair and writing a blog post about how bad it is outside and why I am not going to run after dark that night.
:-) Loved the post and yes you are right running at night is much different than running during the day.

Great post! Thanks.
ReplyDeleteThis was hiliarious!! Love it, great funny post!
ReplyDeleteAwesome! Thanks for the smiles this morning!
ReplyDeleteLOVE this post!
ReplyDeleteAmen!! I've encountered more than my fair share of skunks and even been chased by one. The breath in the headlamp on a cold morning is a hazard. So is accidentally moving your hand in front of the headlamp. I also learned to not watch Halloween movies anymore.
