Do you live to run? Do you plan your day around your running? Do you try to get everyone you know to start running?
If you answered yes to any of these, you may have the runs. If you answered yes to ALL of them, you definitely do!

Spartan Up!

I have be given a chance to read the synopsis for a book written by Joe DeSena, the founder of Spartan Race.

If you don't know what a Spartan Race is check out the video below.

If you've read my race recaps, you know that I have done obstacle races before (Swampfoot, Bump and Run, Tough Mudder) but I have never done a Spartan Race. The more videos I watch and the more I read about Joe, the more I regret this fact. Luckily I have have plenty of time to remedy this. I have already begun adding Spartan races to my 2014/2015 race schedule and looking forward to the challenge they present.

I am also looking forward to the release of Joe's book "Spartan Up!".

With chapters like;
  • Chapter 2: Confronting The Greatest Obstacle—Your Will
  • Chapter 5: Getting a Grip on Your Physical Fitness
  • Chapter 6: Fuel the Fire, Fuel Your Body
  • Chapter 8: From Here to Eternity: Making Your Limits Vanish
this book promises to not only be a guide to running a Spartan Race, but also a tool to help you live your life.

After reading the synopsis, I truly think this book needs to come with a waiver that reads something like this:

"Warning! Reading this book will have you re-evaluating your life and you may find yourself lacking. After completing the book you may feel the temptation to punish yourself with burpees and challenge yourself to overcome bigger obstacles"

Heck, just watching the video below may evoke those same feelings. It sure lit a fire in me.

For those of you who have never heard of Joe DeSena and are wondering what kind of credentials he has to write a book like this, here are a few facts that may convince you that he is the real deal:
  • Within the time span of one week, Joe completed the 135-mile Badwater Ultra-marathon,  the 140.6 miles of Lake Placid Ironman, and a 100-mile trail run in Vermont
  • As part of the Iditarod race, Joe trekked 350 miles across Alaska in snowshoes
  • Did burpees for 9 1/2 straight hours completing 4000 of them
Joe is not a fan of lecturing people, his goal is to inspire them. He sure has inspired me to "Spartan Up!"

Expect a full review on the book upon it's release in May.
